How to Vote and Voting systems

(2)
This resource has been useful for me to show students (especially those under 18) how to vote, and what a voting slip can look like. I have also used it on laminated cards as part of an activity when learning about different voting systems; using a direct questioning technique in revision sessions. 'Joe, show us how you would fill in your form using the AV system' 'Amy, how do we vote with FPTP'. You can then challenge the rest of the group to check if the candidate is correct/ to input any corrections.

Example of an A2 essay

(1)
This is a C/B border grade piece that is well written, but lacking quotes and references from key thinkers submitted for homework by a post student who passed with an overall B grade in Politics. Useful for peer reviewing with a generic mark scheme, so that students can see what examiners are looking for.

Liberalism quotes

(1)
Information about key thinkers and famous quotes from their works. I used this as a matching exercise as a starter for a revision session, but they could be used in a display or something similar.
Introducing ideologies

Introducing ideologies

(4)
This is a fun activity to introduce ideologies to second year students; getting them to think about their own values and the theory behind ideologies and their own world views. It could allow them to later sympathise when learning about political ideologies.

Some criticisms of major ideologies

(1)
I originally designed this for the ‘weaker’ students unable to understand the idea of criticisms and researching critics’ ideas about different ideologies. A very short over-view of the nature of this side to politics; no key thinkers of quotes listed, but intended to be used as a bit of a stepping stone document.

Ideological views on education in Britain

(1)
This is a worksheet put together to fill in gaps left by textbooks at the time regarding the ideological standpoints on education in Britain. Not at all comprehensive, but a decent guide to add to students' individual research.

Nationalism test/ knowledge recall

This is a good piece to use in-class to test students knowledge and understanding of ideologies and in particular Nationalism. Follow-up with peer marking and discussion is also an option that can further the correction of mistakes and development of understanding.

A C/B grade essay about how liberals have reconciled social reform with individual liberty. Ask students to identify the strengths and weaknesses in the essay.
